While Ketchikan is the usual jumping-off point for POW, the island can be accessed by points north - Juneau, Sitka, Petersburg, and Wrangell - as well. Scroll down to look at options.

By Air via Ketchikan

Alaska Airlines provides service from Sea-Tac Airport to Ketchikan. From Ketchikan to Prince of Wales Island local air services land at the airport in Klawock or at seaplane docks in all Prince of Wales Island towns.

If you are arriving at the Ketchikan airport before 1p.m. then you can also make connections with the Inter-Island Ferry (IFA).

IFA Interisland Ferry Authority ferry runs between Hollis and Ketchikan Alaska

By Water via Ketchikan

The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) is the state ferry and it provides transportation to Ketchikan for you and your vehicle. From the terminal in Bellingham, Washington you can relax and watch the scenery go by on a 38 hour passage to Ketchikan. Staterooms are available, or you can roll out a sleeping bag in several areas of the ship.

There is also a terminal in Prince Rupert, B.C.. From there the AMHS ferry ride to Ketchikan is 7 hours.

Make your connection to the Inter-Island Ferry Authority (IFA) in Ketchikan. The ferry departs Ketchikan daily at 3:30p.m. (check in at 2:30!) and docks in Hollis at 6:30p.m.. The ship is 198 feet long, carries up to 190 passengers and 30 vehicles, and has meal service. Reservations are a must.

By water via Wrangell:

Fly Alaska Air or take the AMHS ferry to Wrangell and then board a water taxi to Coffman Cove, Whale Pass, Point Baker, or Port Protection. This is a fun, up-close way to get to P.O.W. Island!
